Kids Camp

We love seeing young people grow in self-confidence, make new friends, form amazing memories and learn more about God at our Kids Camps.

Kids Camp has been bringing joy to young lives for over 10 years. Each year, children from all over Queensland (and sometimes interstate) travel to Coolum Beach or Koojarewon Highfields for a week of fun and adventure. Traditionally run during the December Summer holidays, this year (due to parent and camper demand) we're excited to launch our Winter Kids Camp at Coolum in the July school holidays as well as our awesome Summer Kids Camp!

Frequently asked questions

Who will be leading on camp?

Every camp has a director team, and a balanced team of male and female leaders.  All of our leaders, including directors, camp parents, pastor, and co-directors, are committed Christians - passionate about their faith in God and serving our campers. Our directors and co-directors are experienced leaders who have lead on multiple camps before.

All of our leaders, directors, co-directors, camp parents and pastor must complete a thorough application process. This process includes obtaining a Working With Children Check (Blue Card) approved by the Government, as well as training in working with children, behaviour management, risk assessment, and safe ministry practices (in line with the professional standards of the Lutheran Church of Australia).

Our leaders are passionate about creating a high-quality camp experience and are trainined to ensure it is a safe and fun experience. Many of our leaders have experienced what a life-changing difference these camps make as a camper and want to come back to serve the next generation!  Click here for more information about the requirements of our awesome team.

What does a week at Kids Camp look like?

Kids Camp is 5 days packed full of adventure, fun, laughter and intentional God-time. We've attached a basic Kids Camp program here so you can get an idea of what the week will involve. Each director team will add their own special touches to the program, and you'll receive a final copy of the timetable prior to camp.

5 days is a long time...what if my child gets homesick?

For many of our Kids Campers, this is their first ever camp - and often the longest they've ever spent away from home. We understand that this separation can be daunting for both campers and their families, so we will communicate with you as much as possible leading into camp, as well as while your child is on camp. Our leaders are trained in caring for young people, and are particularly adept at looking out for those who are missing home, struggling to settle or just a little unsure. They will meet your child where they are at, gently include them in camp activities, and continually check in with them to see that they're doing well.

Keep in mind that Kids Camp is a great 'first time away from home' experience, as they are in a caring, safe, intentional environment with leaders, camp parents and our camp pastor all there to make sure they have the best week possible.  You are more than welcome to contact our LYQ Events Coordinator or our Camp Directors (their mobile numbers will be sent to you prior to camp) at any time during camp to check in.

Who can I contact while they are on camp?

We know that circumstances can arise where you will need to make contact with your child, or get a message through to them, on camp. Our LYQ Events Coordinator, Bec, will be available all week to answer questions and any concerns you may have while your child is on camp.

We will also provide you with the direct phone numbers of your Camp Directors, and you are more than welcome to contact them during the week.  Please keep in mind that Camp Directors may not immediately answer the phone as they are often busy running activities or attending to camp logistics, but they will call you back as soon as possible. If your call is urgent, please contact our LYQ Events Coordinator, Bec.

Do you cater for food allergies, dietary requirements and medical conditions on camp?

Yes! Both of our campsites (Luther Heights, Coolum and Koojarewon, Highfields) are experts at covering any and all dietary requirements and food allergies (including - but not limited to - vegetarian, vegan, egg-free, nut allergies, gluten free, and dairy free diets). Both campsites are strict nut-free zones. They are able to provide delicious, nutritious and safe alternatives as required. Please advise us of any allergies, intolerances or dietary requirements when booking your child in for camp, so that we can let our chefs know.

Our camp teams also have designated First Aid Officers who hold current Senior First Aid and CPR certificates. Medications brought to camp will be administered by our Medications Officers, and all medication must be handed in to be stored in a locked compartment at the commencement of camp. When booking your child in for camp, please advise us of any medical conditions or medication that you may be bringing to camp, and feel free to call us on 3511 4080 if you would like to chat further.
